Partner description
City of Velletri is in the Roman Castles area, part of the greater area of Rome, Italy. With more 54.000 inhabitants, Velletri is the location of the second largest Court in the Latium Region. The town has more then 3.000 years of history, before the Roman age, and it has also been the hometown of Octavian. Today is the South-East end of the Rome area and many of the administration office of Rome are located in Velletri, such as the Chamber of Commerce of Rome (South bound) and Cadaster of the Province of Rome.
Experience in related projects
The City of Velletri has recently completed the first phase of “Velletri Città Sicura” (Velletri Safe City), an innovation project, funded by the Latium Region, in the context of the smart cities, for which more than 30 wireless cameras and a wireless broadband network have been implemented in order to provide a wide coverage of video surveillance and traffic jam prevention in the town. The second phase of this project will be implemented in 2013, in order to complement the network described above with a wireless sensor network able to serve innovative services, such as smart parking, citizens’ rescue services and other added value services, which will be provided by third parties that will use such bearer.
Brief description of the role within the project
The City of Velletri will use the area of the so-called “Ciammellone”, a mall which is very close to the Court offices, where there are many public offices, including the Chamber of Commerce, in order to host their pilot. VELLETRI will also host a public event aiming at disseminating the project and make sure a forefront for future exploitation, as well as to promote the town as field test for innovative services in the smart cities context.
