Abstract
Today the development of indoor location based services (LBS) calls for new standards specifically designed for such purposes. However, previous standards were essentially defined for outdoor use. A typical example is OpenLS which was designed for outdoor routing.
Creating indoor location based services not only requires specific technologies but also new concepts that can be applied to specific requirements of indoor spaces, including definition of indoor connectivity graphs for different transportation modalities.
This module will help understand the basics of IndoorGML and will illustrate how its model can be customised to address a variety of different requirements typical of indoor location based services.
The module is a self-learning module.
Structure
The module consists of four parts as follows
Part 1: general principles of indoor location based services
Part 2: general concepts at the basis of IndoorGML
Part 3: Specific aspects of IndoorGML data model
Part 4: typical use case description in the context of i-locate.
Learning outcomes
When completing this module, the learner is expected to be familiar with IndoorGML and its potential use for indoor LBS.
Intended Audience
Professional staff in need to develop indoor LBS.
Pre-requisites
Basic knowledge of XML, GML, connectivity graphs and basics of topological concepts.
